Honduras Donations Needed

The Honduras Mission Group will be going to Honduras July 1—7. The group is in need of the following donations:

Tennis shoes (children’s and adult’s), T-shirts, caps, little children’s clothing, jump ropes, yo-yo’s, children’s sunglasses, hard candy, tootsie rolls, crayolas, stickers, Spanish books for children, tooth brushes, tooth paste, work gloves, and suitcases. All items should be dropped off in the collection bin.

United Way of Pickens County Donations Needed

United Way of Pickens County is working with the community on the issues of hunger and homelessness. It has been brought to our attention that a shortage of funding continues for the School District of Pickens County and its efforts to serve homeless students in elementary through high school and their families. In January 2013 the number of homeless school age children in our county was 1520, a 23% increase from January 2011. The current number exceeds 1600 students with about 90% in elementary school.

To assist the four school social workers, who take care of the 25 schools in Pickens County, we seek your urgent help in securing the following items for the school districts four social workers. All smaller tangible items should be dropped off in the collection bin located in the Welcome Center.
