WMU was established as Woman's Missionary Union in 1888 and has been a
vital and participatory force in Baptist support of world missions. First
Baptist Church has a rich history in WMU dating back to 1917 giving women
voice and strength as mission leaders in our church. WMU emphasis in
2006-2007 is Living the Call. At First Baptist WMU is instrumental is
provided monthly speakers who are actively engaged in mission work. It
sponsors the Charles Arrington Scholarship Fund to assist students in
training for mission work. World hunger, support of missionaries, partnering
with church mission endeavors, and support of community needs are other
avenues of serve of WMU.
There are six mission groups involved in WMU. Each group has an emphasis of
study. They are Bible study, spiritual development, witnessing and ministry,
as well multifocus missions. There is a WMU Yearbook which provides
information about schedules and programs. All are invited to attend.
WMU sponsors mission friends, a mission education program for pre-schoolers.

Each month, the WMU will focus on supporting a local Mission Project.
Posters around the church will highlight the focus for that month. We invite
our entire church family to support and participate in these local mission
opportunities.
